SuperVolume(previouslyknownasSuperSpeed)isa
sophisticatedyetelegantsolutiontothediskI/O
bottleneck.Employingapatentedhybridcache,it
mirrorsanentirediskpartitionorvolumeinRAM.
Inessence,acacheiscreatedinRAMwhich
maintainsaone-to-onerelationshipwithits
associatedpartitionorvolume.Alldataresidingin
thepartitionorvolumeisalsopresentinthe
cache.Thefilesystem,driveletter,andallother
attributesoftheoriginalpartitionorvolumeare
preserved.

HowdoesSuperVolumeaccelerateaprogram?Ifa
programneedslotsofdata(e.g.imagesforavideo
game)it'smuchfastertohaveitcomefromRAMthan
fromdisk.Whenrunningaprogramwithdataona
SuperVolumepartitionorvolume,thedisk-related
delaysand`hiccups'normallyexperienceddisappear!
Theprogramisnolongerhamperedbyslowdisk
access,insteaditcanrunsmoothlyatmemoryspeed.

Inaddition,whenaprogramneedstosave
informationitwillfirstbesavedtoRAM.Then,in
thebackground,SuperVolumewillsavethesechanges
backtothephysicaldiskforsafekeeping.Therefore
theprogram'sdiskI/Oproblemisgreatlyreduced,
ifnoteliminated!

Write-throughandwrite-deferredmodes:SuperVolume
supportswrite-throughandwrite-deferredmodes.In
write-throughmode,writesareimmediatelysentto
thecacheandtothedisk.Thiseliminatesthe
possibilityofdatalossinSuperVolumeduetoa
systemcrashorpowerfailure.Inwrite-deferred
mode,writesareimmediatelysenttothecacheonly,
andthentothediskatalatertime.Thismodeof
operationresultsinread-andwrite-performance
similartothatofRamDisk.SuperSpeedSoftware
recommendsenablingthewrite-deferred(or
lazy-write)featureONLYonsystemsequippedwithan
UninterruptiblePowerSupply(UPS).

AkeyprerequisiteforSuperVolumeistohave,or
create,aharddrivepartitionthatissmallenough
tofitintoavailablephysicalmemory.Forexample,
asystemwith1GBofRAMtypicallyhasaround700
MBavailableforSuperVolume.Therefore,a700MB
diskpartitionorvolumecouldbemirroredinRAMby
SuperVolume.Note:cautionshouldbeexercisedto
leavesufficientmemoryfreefortheoperating
system,programsandservices.

Intheexplanationabovewetalkaboutputtingdata
(graphics,video,databaseetc.)ontheSuperVolume
partitionorvolume.Why?Becausethisdataisthe
mostfrequentlyused.IfthereisenoughRAMthen
